The Power Of Motivation – How To Stay Driven?

Think about a recent activity you really wanted to do but just couldn’t bring yourself to start. Now, recall another task you were equally excited about, but in that case, you did it with all your energy and focus. Looking back, what was the difference between those two experiences?

Recently, I was asked to speak about Motivation, which meant I needed to sit down and prepare a presentation. Ironically, I struggled to find the motivation to start. But once I completed it, I realised that motivation is much deeper than we often think. For me, it was like flipping a switch – either it’s on, or it’s off.

So what is Motivation?

Motivation is the driving force that propels us toward our goals and dreams. It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning, keeps us focused, and helps us push through challenges. Whether you’re aiming for personal growth, career success, or achieving a long-held dream, motivation plays a key role in staying on course.

Without motivation, even the most ambitious goals can feel out of reach. It’s the spark that gives life to your dreams, translating them into action. Motivation helps us maintain consistency, overcome obstacles, and keep pushing forward, especially during challenging times. Without it, procrastination, self-doubt, and fear can creep in, slowing or stopping progress altogether.

Types of Motivation

1. Intrinsic Motivation: This comes from within. It’s driven by personal satisfaction, a sense of purpose, or the joy of improving and feeling appreciated for your efforts.

2. Extrinsic Motivation: This comes from external factors. It’s driven by rewards, praise, guilt, or social pressure. It often aligns with the values of others or the benefits the activity brings to someone else.

How to stay motivated?

Staying motivated is tough, especially when progress feels slow or setbacks occur. That’s where a life coach can be helpful. As your life coach, we can work together to:

  • Set Clear Goals: Break them into smaller, manageable tasks so you feel a sense of accomplishment along the way.
  • Find Your “Why”: Understand the deeper reason behind your goal to strengthen your intrinsic motivation and keep you committed.
  • Celebrate Small Wins: Recognise every step forward, which will encourage you to keep going.
  • Stay Consistent: Motivation can wane, but discipline keeps you moving. Build habits and routines to maintain momentum.
  • Visualise Success: Picture the outcome of your efforts. Envisioning success can re-energise you.
  • Surround Yourself with Positivity: Seek out positive people and environments that inspire and support your goals.

    Summary

Motivation is key to achieving anything in life. It drives your desire to grow and move toward your goals. However, motivation alone isn’t enough—you also need discipline, consistency, and a clear purpose. By staying connected to your goals, celebrating progress, and maintaining a positive mindset, motivation will carry you to the finish line.
